Daydreams and Lullabies

At one point in our lives, we were probably told to stop daydreaming and get on with "real" life.

I have always loved daydreaming, from my boarding school days to my working parent life today. I love it almost as much as I love indulging in a delicious Tiramisu.

I wrote my first children's story for my husband sometime in 2009/2010. And I spent quite some hours sending it to publishers and talking to self-publishing houses. Daydreams around it faded away. Who knew that 10 years later, I would find the nerve and courage to take a chance on myself?

And so today, I am humbled to share with you all the daydream that has turned into reality!

In this reality today, I dedicate and give thanks to all my dear ones who sang me lullabies of encouragement and inspiration.

2020 was a whirlwind of a year. As corona humbled humanity, I lost both my grandparents to old age and a lonely heart. That same year my second child was born, and my father was given his third life by undergoing bypass surgery. A lullaby of life and death and all that is in between.

I daydream of the goodbyes I never got to say. These lost goodbyes reignited my faded-away daydream. I started working with a long-lost friend on a story. A lullaby of goodbyes and rekindled friendships.

2021 started with daydreams that not even your father getting a stroke, post-partum blues or losing your job could bring down. I set up van Doesburg Creative Works and toiled away with creative minds who helped me give life to this daydream. A lullaby of sheer will and grabbing that curve ball.

Through winds that blew hard and rocked my cradle, the lullabies that coaxed me were the three gentle heartbeats nearest to me day in and out.

Ten days from now, on August 20th, 2022, van Doesburg Creative Works will reveal its very first Children's Books. Books that will bring you stories of home or a land far away, friends, and courage.

Join us on this journey of igniting curiosity, self-awareness and confidence in the little ones who make us believe in the lullaby that is this world!
